SAFC

Category : 365, Misc, My Photography

Laid up in bed at the moment so it’s going to be pictures of whatever is lying around the flat during the next few days of my 365 challenge.  This weeks favourite is a football signed by the current Sunderland football team. I’m not really into football and I have no idea who any of them are but my dad is a huge supporter so I’m planning to give it to him for his birthday. I just like it because I’ve just begun to play around with textured layers (a tutorial on it will follow at some point) and didn’t think it was too bad for an early attempt.

All That’s Left

Category : 365, Buildings, My Photography

I’m a bit behind at the moment, I have a lot going on and there may be some some large gaps before I post again. I’m off to Plymouth for a week shortly and moving house when I get back so it’s going to be a bit full on!

Anyway my favourite 365 picture from last week…

It appears to be all that’s left of an old pub down a back alley in town.

Two Ways To Improve Skin In GIMP

Category : GIMP, Photography Tips, Post Processing

If you’re anything like me you’ll detest seeing photos of yourself and be able to pick out a gazillion perceived flaws that no-one else is able to see or perhaps even care about. One of the things you can do in GIMP in the quest for ‘the most unrealistic self portrait that makes me look far  better than I am’ is a post-processing technique called skin smoothing.

The Battle at Hylton Castle

Category : 365, Buildings, My Photography

This weekend Hylton Castle is the scene of an English Civil War re-enactment. I missed the whole event because my weekends are usually taken up with Grumpy but I decided to go along later and take a few pictures of what remains of the castle itself.

14/08/10 - Day 47/365 - Hylton Castle

Now I’ve figured out how to use Luminance I’ve been in a bit of  HDR frenzy and I think I am going to have to resist the urge to to this with every single picture I take. This is my favourite 365 of the week though in hindsight I should have really cloned out those leaves on either side.

Creating HDR with Qtpfsgui / Luminance HDR

Category : Luminance HDR

I have finally got the hang of doing HDR images, I’m not sure why I can suddenly do it or what I was doing wrong in the first place because I’m not doing anything different now but I am actually getting the results that I want at last.

HDR means High Dynamic Range, a technique you can use to create images with greater detail in the lightest and darkest areas of your photos than you could normally achieve.

I use Qtpfsgui or Luminance HDR as it’s know known, which is open source HDR software that you can use on just about every if not all operating systems.

It’s pretty straight forward to use (unless you’re me) so I’m going to take you through how I got the image below step by step.
